Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, is seeking a Nursing Care Assistant II/Health Unit Coordinator for its Perianesthesia department. This role supports the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by providing direct patient care and assisting with non-direct patient care unit coordination. The position requires knowledge of basic care and comfort standards, as well as the specific needs of the patient population in the assigned work area. The Nursing Assistant (NA) is expected to assist the RN in the care of acutely ill patients, practice medical asepsis, respect patient dignity and privacy, and be aware of cultural differences. Adherence to basic policies and procedures, and appropriate response during emergencies are also expected. Responsibilities include maintaining the patient/family environment, general unit upkeep, ordering and maintaining unit equipment, and ordering supplies as needed. Accurate verbal and written communication, and appropriate documentation in the electronic health record are essential. This role involves performing tasks within the scope of a Nursing Care Assistant I and II as defined by the NC Board of Nursing, and a variety of clerical duties related to patient data and records, including operating patient care information systems. Individuals in this role are typically scheduled for NCA II shifts at minimum 75% of the time.
