About The Position

This 31-bed unit is dedicated to Oncology and Med-Surg overflow. This unit schedules daily short stays for chemotherapy treatment, blood transfusions, bone marrow biopsies, and cardiac catheterization. It also specializes in surgical patients with epidurals and can accommodate telemetry patients. The nurse patient ratio is based on acuity, census, and activity. This unit also covers the 8-bed infusion center, which is also included on the 3rd floor. Farmington Hills Hospital is recognized by U.S News and World Report as one of the nation’s high-performing facilities for multiple procedures and conditions and has been recognized as a Magnet-designed hospital for nursing excellence. This hospital has grown in size and capabilities over the decades to become a Level II trauma center, serving the community since 1965. It also serves as the base teaching hospital for Michigan State University.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support required
• Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
• Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
• Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.
• Ability to demonstrate Corewell customer service standards and behaviors in all aspects of job performance

Nice To Haves

• Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred
• Current CNA certification preferred
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
• Basic computer knowledge is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services.
• Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety.
• Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
• Documentation of care provided in the electronic medical record.
