The Nursing Assistant assists the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, and ambulation. This role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and other patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The Nursing Assistant performs purposeful rounding, communicates observations to the RN, and participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes. They are responsible for collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, and maintaining stock for the nursing area. Additionally, the role involves patient positioning and transporting, assisting with nutritional needs, and maintaining skin integrity. Depending on unit requirements and under RN direction, tasks may include removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and performing bladder scans. The position requires adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and knowledge of aseptic procedures. The Nursing Assistant must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development.
