Nursing Assistant Cardiac Care
About The Position
Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, the Nursing Assistant supports delivery of patient care, including personal care, feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, moving and transporting patients, and changing linens. The role collects and documents vital signs and other patient observations and contributes to a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees. This position is 0.8 FTE (64 hours per two-week pay period), working a permanent eight-hour evening shift with an every-other-weekend rotation. The position is based at 333 Smith Ave N, Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Requirements
- Meet one of these age and education conditions: be at least 18 years old, or be 17 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
- Meet one of these preparation or experience conditions: successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program; completion of one semester of clinical rotations in an accredited nursing program; completion of the Allina Health Nursing Assistant Academy Program; or previous direct patient care experience.
- Meet one of these certification conditions: current BLS certification from the American Heart Association; current BLS certification from the American Red Cross; or completion of Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire.
Responsibilities
- Perform assigned personal care and interventions according to each procedure’s critical elements.
- Respond promptly to call lights for assigned and other patients.
- Distribute and set up water, snacks, and patient trays, and assist patients with them.
- Assist with grooming, hygiene, skin integrity, personal comfort, and population-specific needs.
- Assist with ambulation, transfers, positioning, and range of motion according to activity orders and patient needs.
- Carry out fall-prevention activities specified in the plan of care.
- Collect and save specimens.
- Assist the RN with admission, transfer, discharge, and post-mortem care.
- May transport medications within the site, excluding controlled substances.
- Observe, collect, and document patient health-status data, including measurements such as temperature, radial pulse, blood pressure, respirations, weight, and intake and output.
- Immediately report observations or health-status data outside the patient’s normal limits or significant changes to the RN.
- Document according to documentation guidelines.
- Protect patients, self, and others from injury during transfers, lifts, and transports by using proper equipment and body mechanics.
- Report environmental risks and equipment malfunctions to a supervisor.
- Use equipment according to policies, procedures, and manufacturer directions or standards.
- May handle hazardous waste, including identifying, segregating, and disposing of it; ensuring container integrity; and knowing spill, fire, and evacuation response procedures.
