About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, the Nursing Assistant provides basic nursing care to an assigned group of patients. Care settings described include general nursing units, special care areas, maternal-child units, nursery, pediatrics, GI lab, chemical dependency and psychiatric units, emergency, and surgical services. Patient populations vary by unit, from newborns and children to adults and geriatric patients. The employee completes established position competencies within the designated introductory period and performs other related duties as assigned.

This patient-care support role provides essential assistance and comfort to patients and contributes to their healthcare experience.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• BLS certification obtained through an approved American Heart Association Training Center or the Military Training Network.
• Obtain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training within 60 days of hire or transfer to the position.

Nice To Haves

• Satisfactory completion of a Nurse Assistant, EMT, Paramedic, or Medical Assisting course.
• Six months of experience in the healthcare industry and/or knowledge of basic medical terms and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the direction and supervision of an RN.
• Provide care to patients in the unit or service area to which assigned, following established competencies.
• Complete established competencies for the position within the designated introductory period.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
