The Nursing Assistant (Grade S7, Job Code 8003) participates in the nursing process during the delivery of patient care. They assist in providing nursing care to patients and collect data for assessment of physical, psychological, and social dimensions under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The Nursing Assistant also participates in implementing a formal plan of care for the patient under the direction of the Registered Nurse. They are expected to participate in at least four unit staff meetings per year and attend mandatory programs. Adherence to safety and blood/body fluid policies and procedures is required. The role involves assessing personal and learning development needs and regularly updating knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served. The Nursing Assistant represents the hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided. Consistently providing service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers is expected. The Nursing Assistant II also demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems) and assists in the orientation of other personnel to the unit under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Other work-related duties and activities may be assigned or requested by their immediate supervisor.
