The 9 North ACE unit is a 29-bed specialty unit for the care of medical patients 65 years old and older. We take care of a variety of patients with medical conditions and co-morbidities, specializing in the acute care of the elderly. The hospital is a Magnet hospital, and staff are NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for HealthSystem Elders) trained. Additional specialty training is provided in the care of geriatric patients. Through NICHE, all nurses are Geriatric Resource Nurse (GRN) trained, and all nursing assistants (NAs) and clinical assistants (CAs) are Geriatric Patient Care Associate (GPCA) trained. The unit has a dynamic and diverse staff, providing a unique environment of compassionate care with opportunities for learning and professional growth. Royal Oak Hospital is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the #2 hospital in Michigan and one of the top hospitals in the country. It is a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations.
