The Nursing Assistant will assist the RN with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, and ambulation. This role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights, as well as accurately documenting patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The Nursing Assistant will perform purposeful rounding, communicate observations to the RN, and participate in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes. Responsibilities also include collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, completing errands, maintaining stock for the nursing area, and cleaning equipment and work areas. The position requires performing patient positioning and transporting duties, assisting with nutritional needs, and maintaining skin integrity. Depending on site/unit requirements and under the direction of the RN, duties may include removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and performing bladder scans. The role emphasizes practicing within infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures. The Nursing Assistant must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development.
