About The Position

The Nursing Assistant works in the Progressive Care Unit, a 72-bed unit providing patient- and family-centered care to patients requiring progressive care, including critically ill patients who may need titrated cardiac drips, ventilation, or a higher level of supportive care. The team includes nurses, nursing assistants, and telemetry technicians.

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nursing Assistant provides care according to the plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy. The role also includes transporting patients, providing constant observation when indicated, performing receptionist and clerical duties, and documenting care in the electronic medical record.

The position is part-time at Farmington Hills Hospital, with a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., variable workdays, and every-other-weekend coverage. Corewell Health advertises a $750 sign-on bonus for part-time employment. Benefits eligibility is determined by employment type and status.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support certification.
• Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
• Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
• Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.
• Ability to demonstrate Corewell Health customer service standards and behaviors in all aspects of job performance.

Nice To Haves

• Previous hospital or nursing home experience.
• Current CNA certification.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Basic computer knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care according to the plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Safely transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher.
• Dispatch services and document services appropriately.
• Provide in-person or remote-video constant observation for patients assessed as needing it to maximize their safety.
• Perform general receptionist and clerical duties to support efficient nursing-unit operations.
• Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
