About The Position

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the Nursing Assistant assists in providing care to patients and/or families from admission through discharge. A Nursing Assistant is a licensed paraprofessional trained to provide personal care, basic nursing support, and related healthcare services to individuals who are sick, disabled, or infirm. The Nursing Assistant must hold an active Rhode Island Nursing Assistant license issued by the Department of Health. Requirements

  • Current Rhode Island Nursing Assistant license
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Basic computer skills
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care across the lifespan, including understanding of aging processes, developmental stages, and cultural considerations

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of Nursing Assistant experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the RN to organize work and set priorities
  • Perform personal care skills
  • Perform basic Nursing Assistant skills as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Health Professional Licensing and Facility Regulation
  • Assist with rehabilitation activities, including activities of daily living and patient ambulation as appropriate
  • Maintain a safe environment by reporting unsafe conditions or equipment requiring repair and removing defective equipment from service
  • Recognize, observe, and promptly report patient signs and symptoms to the RN
  • Adhere to safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards in accordance with hospital and departmental policies
  • Accurately document patient care and observations in the electronic health record (EHR), patient care flowsheets, and clinical documentation systems
  • Demonstrate ability to perform responsibilities during emergency or code situations
  • May function as a patient observer
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
