The Nursing Assistant assists the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, and ambulation. This role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The Nursing Assistant also performs purposeful rounding, participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes, and ensures patient call lights are within reach and answered promptly. Responsibilities include collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, completing errands, maintaining stock for the nursing area, and cleaning equipment. The position requires performing patient positioning and transporting duties, assisting with nutritional needs, and maintaining skin integrity. Depending on site/unit requirements and under RN direction, tasks may include removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and performing bladder scans. The role emphasizes practicing within infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and aseptic procedures, and requires demonstrating knowledge of age-appropriate patient care.
