About The Position

Cibola General Hospital is seeking a Nursing Assistant to join their team of compassionate caregivers. This 25-bed critical access hospital offers an environment that supports professional growth and development with the latest technologies. Located an hour from Albuquerque and close to Santa Fe, Grants, NM, offers a mild climate, outdoor activities, low property taxes, and inexpensive housing costs. Cibola General Hospital provides a range of services including general surgery, 24-hour Emergency care, Intensive Care, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Pathology, Pediatric Dentistry, Podiatry, Primary Care, and Radiology with advanced imaging capabilities. They also offer clinics, lab services, pharmacy, cardiopulmonary and rehab services, and skilled care beds, with three operating rooms available.

Requirements

Specifically trained for technical nursing functions via “on the job” training, in-service training, or formal nurse aide classes.
Employment is in accordance with Cibola General Hospital’s policies on eligibility for employment (policy #105.102).

Responsibilities

Administering direct patient care and performing other duties as necessary to ensure optimal patient care, under the direction of a Professional Nurse.
Assisting Staff Nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with established hospital methods and procedures.
Administering daily care effectively and in a timely manner, including AM/PM care, backrubs, shaves, assisting with ambulation, elimination, dressing/undressing patients, and changing bed linen.
Providing catheter care, special skin care, collecting specimens, monitoring intake and output, taking vital signs, and applying compresses (warm and cold).
Assisting with preoperative and postoperative care, enemas, vaginal irrigations, and surgical preps.
Providing patients and family members with encouragement and support.
Functioning as a cooperative, active member of the health care team.
Observing patient’s conditions and reporting any untoward signs, symptoms, or unusual occurrences immediately.
Maintaining current documentation of patient’s status on the Treatment Sheet and giving reports to the Nursing Supervisor, assigned Staff Nurse, and relieving Nurse Assistant.
Assisting in the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
Answering patient call lights quickly.
Assisting in transporting patients to surgery.
Accepting and completing special assignments in a timely manner, such as emptying trash, passing fresh linen, cleaning patient and employee food refrigerators, passing fresh water to patients, and cleaning the Nursing break room.
Cleaning equipment after use and inspecting it for damage.
Assisting other staff voluntarily in the completion of duties.
Acting as a preceptor for new nursing assistants and reporting progress to the Nursing Supervisor.
Ensuring patient safety by performing all procedures and conducting oneself in accordance with hospital and safety policies and procedures.
Participating in the CPR program and completing necessary requirements.
Maintaining constant vigilance over patients (q 1 hour), taking necessary safety precautions (rails up, call lights within reach, bed in low position).
Maintaining patients’ rooms in a neat, orderly manner with clear walking areas.
Assisting patients to their car at the time of discharge.
Dressing and conducting oneself in a professional manner at all times.
Recognizing and utilizing the chain of command appropriately to solve problems.
Maintaining confidentiality of all patient, hospital, or physician-related information.
Respecting patient privacy and maintaining provisions for such at all times.
Reporting to work promptly at least 95% of the time, with less than 12 tardies per year greater than 5 minutes.
Using sick time when approved and not considered excessive (defined as more than 7 per year).
Demonstrating a willingness to learn new procedures and requesting explanations in areas where knowledge is limited.
Relieving in other areas as necessary.
Participating in In-service Education Programs and attending all mandatory classes unless other arrangements have been made.
Relieving the professional nurse of clerical and non-technical duties when possible.
Demonstrating proficiency in a task list of procedures, including answering intercom and unit telephone promptly and in a mannerly way.
Serving and removing patient diet trays and feeding patients when necessary.
Caring for water pitchers, forcing fluids when ordered, and accurately recording Intake & Output.
Preparing and passing nourishments to patients.
Correctly placing bedpans and urinals for patients and removing them correctly as soon as the patient is finished.
Assisting patients with the use of bedside commodes.
Giving correct oral hygiene, including special mouth care and denture care.
Providing hair and nail care, including shampoos.
Giving AM/PM care including back rubs and special skin care.
Demonstrating correct positioning of patients and turning of patients for prevention of pressure sores.
Demonstrating correct techniques for baths (sitz, partial, assist, complete, or shower).
Demonstrating correct technique for bed making (occupied, unoccupied).
Demonstrating correct technique in patient activity assistance (placing patient in chair, ambulating with assistance, cane, crutches, or walker).
Transporting patients correctly (by wheelchair or stretcher).
Demonstrating correct technique with mechanical devices (foot boards, linen cradle, trapeze set-up, K-pad or ice packs).
Demonstrating correct technique for vital signs (temperature (oral, axillary, rectal), pulse, respiration, and blood pressure).
Performing correct care of the patient after death (morgue preparation/belongings).
Performing correct care of the room after discharge.
Demonstrating correct technique for collection of specimens (sputum, stool, urine).
Demonstrating correct technique for culture and sensitivity collection.
Demonstrating correct procedure for collecting a urine specimen when a patient has an indwelling catheter.
Demonstrating correct application and monitoring of restrained patients.
Performing correct care of linens and prosthesis.
Utilizing infection control and isolation techniques, including proper hand washing, gowning, gloving, and masking.
Demonstrating correct procedure in caring for a pre- and postoperative patient.
Understanding the role in fire/disaster/emergency situations.
Performing Foley care.
