About The Position

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the Nursing Assistant assists in the care of patients and/or families from admission through discharge. A Nursing Assistant is a paraprofessional trained to provide personal care and related health care assistance to individuals who are sick, disabled, or infirm. The role supports patients who are residents of or receiving services from state-licensed health care facilities or agencies. The position requires an active Nursing Assistant license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health. Requirements

  • Current Rhode Island Nursing Assistant license
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Basic computer skills
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care to patients across the lifespan, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience as a Nursing Assistant preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance with activities of daily living and personal hygiene.
  • Performs nursing assistant functions as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Health, Professional Licensing and Facility Regulation.
  • Assists patients with daily activities and ambulation as appropriate.
  • Reports unsafe conditions or situations to the Registered Nurse, manager, or supervisor.
  • Identifies equipment needing repair and removes it from service when necessary.
  • Observes, recognizes, and promptly communicates relevant patient observations to the Registered Nurse.
  • Maintains quality assurance and infection control standards in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Accurately documents patient care data in the electronic health record (EHR), patient care flowsheets, and clinical records.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform responsibilities during emergency or code situations.
  • May function as a patient observer when required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
