About The Position

Provides direct patient care under the direction of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses through the nursing process according to the established policies, procedures, and guidelines of the department and hospital. Has knowledge of assigned tasks and equipment necessary to meet the specific needs of the patient population served. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or completion of a formal nursing assistant program; currently enrolled in a student nurse program (applicant must have one semester medical/surgical clinical experience); or at least (1) one year of previous clinical experience demonstrating competency in Nursing Assistant duties.
  • Actively enrolled in or completion of High School or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers direct patient care under the direction of the registered nurse.
  • Responds to the demands of changing patient acuity in a positive effectiveness.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for continuous improvement.
  • Practices quality service as evidenced through QI results and patient satisfaction.
  • Performs general care routines to assure patient’s physical and mental comfort.
  • Responds to call lights promptly, makes frequent rounds and attempts to meet patient needs.
  • Reports observations and changes in condition or behavior of the patient to the team leader. Documents activities and observations.
  • Takes and records vital signs, heights and weights.
  • Maintains accurate intake and output records.
  • Collects specimens and performs specimen testing (as competent) and delivers them to the requested area.
  • Transports patients safely.
  • Assist nurse with treatments as assigned.
  • Reports on patient’s condition, activities, day’s schedule, and care needed from their shift.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of safety devices.
  • Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines.
  • Orients new members of the healthcare team.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and patient safety; assists in maintaining compliance with TJC and other internal and external regulatory standards.
