This position assists the RN with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, and ambulation. The Nursing Assistant measures and documents vital signs and patient data, performs purposeful rounding, and participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes. They also collect specimens, perform point-of-care testing, and complete various errands. The role involves patient positioning and transporting, assisting with nutritional needs, and maintaining skin integrity. Depending on unit requirements, they may also remove IVs, provide post-mortem care, and perform bladder scans. The Nursing Assistant practices within infection prevention policies, demonstrates hand hygiene, and understands sterile and aseptic procedures. They must possess the knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
