About The Position

As a Nursing Assistant, you'll work alongside a dedicated healthcare team to provide exceptional care in a supportive environment. Guthrie is a not-for-profit, integrated healthcare system serving patients throughout the Twin Tiers of New York and Northern Pennsylvania. Our Skilled Nursing Unit is committed to providing compassionate, resident-centered care while promoting teamwork, professional growth, and clinical excellence. The Nursing Assistant works under the direction of the professional nursing staff to provide direct resident care within the Skilled Nursing Unit. This role assists residents with activities of daily living, supports individualized care plans, and helps maintain a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment for residents and their families.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and understand written and verbal communication.
  • Must follow universal precautions and utilize proper body mechanics.
  • Maintains CPR certification.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Check required.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to resident needs.

  • Provides direct care to residents over 16 years of age, with the majority of care provided to elderly residents.
  • Frequently standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift, push, or move residents and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with appropriate assistance and equipment.
  • Regular exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, and other healthcare-related hazards.
  • Frequently exposed to disagreeable sights, sounds, odors, and body waste.
  • Must comply with all federal, state, local, and organizational policies regarding resident care and safety.
  • Participates in ongoing education, performance improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and required in-service training.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous nursing assistant experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance with rules and regulations of all federal, state, and local governments is a requirement of employment.
  • Provides direct care to assure resident comfort.
  • Participates in team conferences and care planning.
  • Prepares residents for meals, assists in feeding.
  • Maintains resident's rights.
  • Makes rounds. Anticipates resident needs and responds to call lights.
  • Reports to appropriate nursing personnel pertinent information including any changes observed in condition or behavior of resident.
  • Provides input into resident care plans.
  • Assists in maintaining safe and clean environment.
  • Assists in orientation of nursing assistants.
  • Completes daily documentation.
  • Keeps informed of fire, safety, and disaster programs.
  • Attends designated in-service programs.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned, reasonably related.
