Performs the UPMC nursing core responsibilities for nursing assistants, including blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, intake and output, specimen collection, and Foley care. Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status. May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per physician or hospital protocol. The role involves direct patient care, maintaining a safe and clean environment, acquiring and distributing supplies, and assisting with patient nourishment and mail. The position also includes responding to call lights, telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients. Documentation in the medical record, clerical functions, and adherence to safety policies are also key responsibilities. The Nursing Assistant will respond to emergent situations within their scope and may provide one-on-one supervision to patients.
