Nursing Assistant, Certified, Long Term Care (LTC)

Sanford Health•Rapid City, SD

About The Position

The Nursing Assistant Trainee participates in a formal learning experience designed to develop the confidence and competence needed to provide personal care to clients. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse and in partnership with a preceptor, the trainee provides holistic, client-centered care that promotes independence and client rights in a safe, caring, and efficient manner. Trainees must work within the non-certified nursing assistant role and may perform services only after being trained and found proficient by the instructor. The training program is delivered in a hybrid format, with online curriculum and hands-on skills development. Trainees must fulfill all program requirements within the designated timeframe. On completion, participants will be prepared to take state knowledge and skills examinations to obtain CNA or another applicable state certification. While in the program, the trainee is a member of the nursing team and follows location-specific standards for infection prevention and control, personal protective equipment, safety, and privacy. The role involves working with clients and families to support physical, cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and social needs, and providing age-appropriate care according to the care plan. The trainee assists the care team, documents care when appropriate, and reports changes in client condition and care-related concerns to a licensed nurse.
