The Nursing Assistant - Orthopedics Medical Surgical position is a part-time role requiring 20 hours per week, with shifts typically being two 12-hour days (6:30 am - 7:00 pm) per week, including rotating weekends and holidays. The role involves assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and assisting with activity orders and ambulation. Responsibilities also include measuring and documenting vital signs and patient data, accurately documenting in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), performing purposeful rounding, and participating in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes under RN supervision. The Nursing Assistant ensures patient call lights are within reach and answered promptly, collects specimens, maintains competency, and completes various errands. They are also responsible for maintaining and ordering stock for the nursing area, cleaning equipment and work areas, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties. Additional tasks may include assisting with nutritional needs, maintaining skin integrity, providing special patient supplies, and potentially removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and performing bladder scans under RN direction. The role requires adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and aseptic procedures, and the ability to provide age-appropriate care based on principles of growth and development.
