About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Assistant to perform specific tasks that assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses. The position is in the 26-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), which provides comprehensive, high-tech intensive care to acutely ill adults with complex critical conditions. Patient diagnoses include multisystem failure, respiratory failure, severe sepsis, overdoses, gastrointestinal bleeding, medical neurological conditions, various cancers, and bone marrow transplants. The MICU uses advanced technology and provides total patient care through a multidisciplinary approach. This position is 80% (32 hours per week), with 8-hour day shifts from 0700 to 1500. The schedule includes an every-other-weekend and every-other-holiday rotation. The work location is the University Campus in Iowa City, Iowa.

Responsibilities

Perform patient personal hygiene, including bathing, toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming, and oral care.
Turn, position, and ambulate patients.
Assist patients with bedpans, urinals, and perineal cleansing.
Take patients’ temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
Enter daily patient record charting in a computer.
Perform simple diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, such as dressing changes.
Clean equipment, the patient bedside area, and the nursing unit.
Set up rooms for patient admission.
Transport patients by bed, cart, or wheelchair.
Transport equipment, specimens, and supplies.
Stock and supply patient rooms and the Nursing unit.
Perform basic CPR as required.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
