About The Position

This multi-functional role requires incumbents to be cross-trained to perform Unit Secretary duties as well as at least one other clinical support job, such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, this position provides excellent customer service, performs clerical and administrative services, monitors, orders, and stocks supplies, and maintains a safe work environment. Additional functions may include data collection related to patient status, performing basic nursing procedures, monitoring and documenting patient responses, performing or assisting with treatments and procedures, and assisting with the maintenance of patient care equipment. At least 20% of the time will be spent in a clinical support role.

Requirements

  • Unit Secretary training program or on-the-job training.
  • CNA-certification
  • Ability to perform clerical and administrative duties.
  • Ability to perform basic nursing procedures and patient care tasks.
  • Knowledge of supply ordering and inventory management.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a nursing assistant, patient care tech or nursing fundamentals class preferred.
  • In lieu of US training, will accept 6 months of clerical or healthcare related experience or completion of nursing fundamentals course.

Responsibilities

  • Performs effective customer service skills, responding to patients, family, and staff with kindness, courtesy, professionalism, and efficiency.
  • Participates in patient care rounding in collaboration with unit staff.
  • Manages ordering, stocking, and inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the nurse manager.
  • Performs general reception and clerical duties at the nurse’s station, including responding to patient calls.
  • Provides administrative and clerical support, including data entry, meeting minutes, maintaining bulletin boards, and organizing downtime forms.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Performs duties of a PCT/NST/Certified Nursing Assistant as required.
