About The Position

Fairview is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the Operating Room at The University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank in Minneapolis, MN. This position is a full-time role, 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks) working 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday (2:30 PM - 11:00 PM) with occasional weekends/holidays and off shifts to cover vacation requests. The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is an integrated academic health care system, comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on the East and West banks of the UMMC campus in Minneapolis. Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants needs to acquire the certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech

• Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience

Responsibilities

• Facilitates OR room turnover.
• Performs cleanup of OR.
• Readies OR for next patient.
• Procures equipment.
• Properly cares for equipment and takes action for preventive maintenance.
• Transports specimens and blood products.
• Transports dirty case carts to decontamination area.
• Provides Patient Care: Assists in transfer/positioning of patients.
• Assists with preparation of patients for surgery.
• Transports patient.
• Maintains Inventory Control.
• Orders and manages supplies as directed.
• Restocks department with supplies.
• Makes rounds to keep current inventory in stock.
• Communicates supply issues to appropriate person.
• Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
