About The Position

The Surgical Nursing Assistant-OR position is a part-time role on the first shift, focusing on weekends. The Surgical Services Department at Baptist Health Lexington includes the Pre-Op Department, 20 operating rooms, a Postoperative Care Unit, an Endoscopy Department, and a Sterile Processing Department. This role assists hospital staff and patients in providing high-quality, safe patient care, including basic physical care, safe patient transport, and performing tasks according to hospital policy. The position also involves utilizing principles of aseptic technique, ensuring positive customer interactions, and participating in unit activities. A key responsibility is aiding in surgical procedures and performing basic circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room. The training schedule is Monday-Friday from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm for three months, followed by a transition to the weekend schedule.

Requirements

• High School Diploma and/or Equivalent.
• Current KY Nurse Aide Certification, or successful completions of first year of Nursing program with validation of clinical rotation.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If not already certified, applicants must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assists the hospital staff/department in the provision of high quality, safe patient care at the direction of management and/or nursing personnel.
• Provides basic physical care of the patient.
• Demonstrates safe patient transport with stretcher, wheelchairs, and patient beds.
• Performs tasks and procedures as directed according to hospital policy and procedure.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes principles of aseptic technique.
• Ensures positive customer relations interactions.
• Actively participates in unit activities.
• Aid in Surgical Procedures and certain basic circulating functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the Operating Room.
