About The Position

Responsible to the Unit Director/Manager/designee for overall practice. In his/her absence is responsible to the Nursing Supervisor, Charge Nurse or Nursing House Supervisor of the shift. Works under the direct supervision of a professional nurse and is responsible to her/him for the care/duties assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Updates knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis including, but not limited to successful completion and maintenance of job related competencies.
  • Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patient and staff.
  • Supports and encourages harmonious communication skills.
  • Uses verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates high level of mental and emotional tolerance, uses tact, sensitivity and sound judgments.
  • Communicates in highly professional manner at all times.
  • Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a patient care training course is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a position with patient care activity is preferred.
  • Nursing Assistant Certification preferred.
  • If Nursing Assistant Certified must be certified by the state of Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care, including basic hygienic care, preparing patients for transport, assisting with activities of daily living, responding to call lights, taking and recording vital signs, changing linens, measuring and recording intake and output, distributing nourishment, administering sitz baths and hot/cold applications, assisting with admission/discharge/transfer, handling and care of personal property, labeling belongings, recording and reporting care provided and patient complaints, providing equipment set-up, and performing pre-operative shaving and Bedside Glucose (BSG) testing.
  • Maintains a safe environment by keeping side rails up, ensuring call bells and articles are within reach, keeping rooms neat, reporting changes in patient's condition, and keeping hallways clear.
  • Provides indirect patient care by resupplying stock, delivering specimens, assembling charts, delivering requisitions, running errands, cleaning instruments, answering the telephone, documenting care provided, and performing other duties as assigned.
