About The Position

In this role you will be performing technical duties in the field of detainee patient care and participating in the general healthcare of detainees by providing assistance for activities, as permitted in the state of Arizona. Assisting licensed staff in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED, current Medical Assistant Certification or registry from an accredited medical assistant program recognized by the state of Arizona
  • CPR certification
  • US Citizenship or Lawful US Permanent Resident required.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating movement of detainees to and from different areas for medical treatment.
  • Take and record vital signs and medical history of assigned detainees.
  • Prepare detainees for examinations and assist nurse or provider during examination.
  • Work efficiently to ensure providers have seamless flow of patients, and supplies, charts and equipment are readily available.
  • Explain treatment procedures to detainees; provide education on condition, treatment or treatment plan.
  • Properly chart medical care consistent with scope of practice and ensure completeness and accuracy of entries.
  • Administer oral medications.
  • Provide assistance to Infirmary detainees as instructed, and accurately enter treatment provided in medical records.
  • Perform complex and technical procedures under nursing supervision, such as unsterile dressing changes, superficial wound care, performing urine and finger stick glucose tests.
  • Set up and operate therapeutic equipment; instruct and supervise detainees in various therapies.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a safe, comfortable facility environment; obtain and store medical supplies; clean and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure supply security, replace facility working stock, maintain the upkeep of facility supply room and medical equipment, and maintain inventory PAR levels.
  • Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of medical records. Observe applicable HIPAA laws.
  • Practice basic cost containment and utilization management techniques.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communication and flow of relevant information.
  • Participate in in-service training, continuing education classes, and audit preparation activities.
  • Perform CPR when necessary. Maintain current certification.
  • Reliably and repetitively identify detainees by visual means and verification of inmate identification numbers
  • Requires long periods of walking and standing.
  • Regular and predictable onsite attendance is required.
  • The incumbent is required to work overtime when directed to do so.
  • Comply with the requirements of applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards and contractual requirements.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her scope of work as determined by management.
