The Nursing Assistant II (NA II) - Labor & Delivery position at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is a part-time role responsible for assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with the daily care of patients in the Labor and Delivery unit. This includes providing direct patient care such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and assisting with ambulation and positioning. The NA II will also be responsible for accurately measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and other patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The role involves performing purposeful rounding, participating in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes, and ensuring patient call lights are within reach and answered promptly. Additionally, the NA II will collect specimens, perform point-of-care testing, and maintain the nursing area by ordering stock and cleaning equipment. The position requires performing patient positioning and transporting duties that involve lifting and pushing/pulling, as well as assisting with nutritional needs and maintaining skin integrity. Depending on unit requirements and under RN direction, the NA II may perform additional skills such as removing IVs/urinary catheters, simple wound dressing changes, phlebotomy, ECGs, and bladder scans. The role also emphasizes practicing infection prevention techniques and may involve serving as a resource, preceptor, or participating in process improvement initiatives and shared governance. The position requires demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served.
