The Nursing Assistant Float Pool (CNA) assists RNs with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation. This role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, patient data, and accurately recording information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The CNA also performs purposeful rounding, participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes, and ensures patient call lights are always within reach and answered promptly. Responsibilities include collecting specimens, maintaining nursing area stock, cleaning equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties that require lifting and pushing/pulling. The role also involves assisting with nutritional needs and skin integrity, providing special patient supplies, and potentially performing tasks such as removing IVs, providing post mortem care, and bladder scans under RN direction. Adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and aseptic procedures, is crucial. The CNA must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development.
