About The Position

The Nursing Assistant - Flex Pool position at Navicent Health Medical Center involves providing comprehensive physical care to patients according to AHF/unit patient care standards. This includes personal care, pre- and post-operative/procedure care, post-mortem care, assisting patients with ambulation and exercise, and managing patients with infectious diseases or those requiring restraints. Key responsibilities also encompass skin care protocols, accurate documentation of vital signs and other monitoring, and prompt notification of nurses regarding abnormal observations. The role requires implementing admission, transfer, and discharge procedures, maintaining a clean and safe patient environment, and utilizing proper body mechanics. Effective communication, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving skills are essential. The assistant will also participate in maintaining supplies, equipment, and unit cleanliness, engage in self-growth and accountability through quality assurance activities, and maintain unit-specific competencies such as preceptor training, glucose monitoring, respiratory care, and CPR. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to communicate with patients, staff, and coworkers.

Nice To Haves

  • CPI
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred
  • One year of experience taking care of patients and dealing with the public preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency in the physical care of the patient according to AHF/unit patient care standards, including personal care for all body systems, pre- and post-op/ procedure care, post-mortem care, patient in restraints, placement of electrodes for cardiac, respiratory and/or fetal monitoring, assisting with ambulation and exercise, patients with infectious diseases, correct positioning of patients in beds, chairs, and specialty surfaces, transfer of patient, and transportation of patients.
  • Demonstrates competency in skin care protocols and care.
  • Accurately performs/ documents intake/ output, vital signs, weights and other monitoring, including computerized charting.
  • Promptly notifies nurse of abnormal vital signs, observations, physical complaints, etc.
  • Assists in identifying patients at risk for falls and preventing falls.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for the patient, including correct handling of body fluids and appropriate cleaning of equipment between patients.
  • Demonstrates utilization of proper body mechanics and appropriate lift techniques/ resources.
  • Performs glucose monitoring via fingerstick.
  • Implements admission, transfer and discharge procedures, according to AHF/unit standards, including assisting with timely admission, discharge or transfer, providing explanations of the physical environment, accurately recording relevant and required information, collecting and properly forwarding patient's personal belongings, assuring unused equipment and supplies are cleaned/removed, and utilizing discharge process.
  • Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills, including assuring timely and appropriate communication of patient/ family issues, establishing therapeutic relationships, utilizing appropriate lines of authority, maintaining confidentiality, demonstrating effective conflict resolution skills, and demonstrating awareness of satisfaction issues.
  • Demonstrates competence in time management and prioritization, teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking, organization of work and environment, and timely response to patient/nurse needs and requests.
  • Participates in maintaining supplies, equipment and unit cleanliness, including maintaining a neat and orderly appearance of patient areas, restocking supplies, reporting broken, malfunctioning or missing equipment, ensuring appropriate charges are made, properly handling, storing, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and efficiently and appropriately using supplies, linen and dietary items.
  • Demonstrates self-growth/accountability, including participating in quality assurance and PI activities, participating in at least 50% of unit meetings and reading/initialing minutes, maintaining awareness of hospital/division/unit procedure/policy changes, verbalizing how job supports organizational/ departmental goals, demonstrating Cultural Commitments, assuring competency maintained, and complying with unit-specific articulated job expectations.
  • Demonstrates competency in all required complex care activities within their home units as determined by unit need, including completion of Preceptor training and serving in Preceptor role, Glucose monitoring and quality control checks, Respiratory Care including tracheostomy care, suctioning, etc., completing required CPR training, dressing changes, monitoring chest and other drainage tubes and levels, and procedure/equipment set-up, assembling, administering, monitoring tube feedings.
  • Assists in achieving unit quality scores which meet or exceed hospital/ national average for nurse-sensitive quality indicators such as skin breakdown, falls, and others as appropriate for the unit.
