About The Position

This posting is open exclusively to current AL DOC incumbent employees. NaphCare is seeking to hire a Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technicians (NA/PCT) to join their team of medical professionals in Elba, AL. Full Time and Part Time positions may be available. As a Correctional Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician, you will work under the supervision of a registered nurse alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority, you will have various duties including assisting physicians and other healthcare professionals with examinations, taking patient histories, vital signs, and supporting administrative tasks. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to a diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Be able to obtain BLS CPR Certification
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like CPR
  • Ability to maintain good balance and endurance throughout a shift

Nice To Haves

  • AHA preferred for BLS CPR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Assist with performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history
  • Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and weight
  • Documenting medical history including medications, treatment and medical conditions
  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills including bathing, dressing, feeding and mobility
  • Providing basic wound care, basic laboratory tests, basic patient education and instructions
  • Observing and reporting changes in patients’ physical or mental health to nurses
  • Scheduling and coordinating patient appointments
  • Maintaining inventory of medical and office supplies
  • Answering phones, emails and other forms of communications
