The Nursing Assistant (CNA) will assist the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients in the Adult Medical Care unit. This includes tasks such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, assisting with activity orders and ambulation, and proper positioning. The role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights, as well as accurately documenting patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The CNA will perform purposeful rounding, collect specimens, and assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. They will ensure patient call lights are within reach and answered promptly, and maintain stock for the nursing area. The position requires performing patient positioning and transporting duties, which involve lifting and pushing/pulling using proper techniques and assistive devices. The CNA will also assist with nutritional needs, maintaining skin integrity, and ensuring special patient supplies are provided. Depending on unit requirements and under RN direction, tasks may include removing IVs, providing post mortem care, and performing bladder scans. Adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile/aseptic procedures, is crucial. The role requires demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding growth and development principles, and assessing patient needs based on age-specific requirements.
