About The Position

Regional One Extended Care Hospital (LTAC) is currently seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant. Under direction of a professional nurse, performs patient care activities to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients, assisting members of the healthcare team, and maintaining a clean, safe environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved nursing assistant or medical assistant program
  • Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the infant, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient as specialty assignment dictates
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Upon Hire
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support BLS Upon Hire
  • Current Nurse Aide Certification in the State of Tennessee is within 60 Days

Responsibilities

  • Performs and assists with various aspects of patient care under general supervision.
  • Determines the nature of the patient's visit.
  • Takes and records patient’s vital signs recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration.
  • Prepares patient for diagnostic examination and treatment.
  • Performs basic lab procedures as instructed.
  • Prepares and forwards specimens (urine, stool and sputum).
  • Assists with medical procedures and treatments as appropriate, including comforting patients, handing instruments and supplies to physician, wound care, injections, applying bandages and hot cold packs, etc.
  • Observes and reports patient’s response to interventions/treatment.
  • Completes all documentation requirements in a timely manner.
  • Provides one-on-one to patients requiring close observation and monitoring to ensure their safety and prevention of injury.
  • Obtains medical and lab records.
  • Completes all necessary documentation in patient’s medical records in accordance with the clinic’s charting policy.
  • Communicates unit activities, needs and problems to appropriate staff regarding patient care.
  • Follows-up with patient/family member/hospital staff as required.
  • Performs other procedures specific to clinical area.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care, maintains clinical competency and meets patient population needs in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner.
  • Takes and records patient's vital signs.

  • Works within isolation precautions.
  • Performs pre/post procedural care as delegated.
  • Applies dressings, compresses, bandages and preoperative skin preps.
  • Assists others in performance of more complicated treatments or diagnostic procedures as requested/assigned.
  • Collects specimens (urine, stool).
  • Forwards specimens to laboratory (urine, stool, blood, sputum).
  • Performs simple record keeping.
  • Answers patients signal light/bell to determine patient's needs.
  • Answers phones as requested.
  • Transports or walks patients as requested.
  • Communicates to licensed staff regarding patients’ condition changes.
  • Participates in care planning for patients.
  • Gives and takes report on assigned patients to RN/LPN care partner at shift change.
  • Participates in patient care conferences.
  • Interacts and communicates in a customer responsiveness and courteous manner in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction.
  • Works collaboratively with medical/hospital staff and patients to coordinate and implement patient care activities.
  • Prepares and maintains required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
  • Maintains patient medical records; documents patient status and care given; performs charting duties; records activities and observations.
  • Utilizes patient computer systems to enter and retrieve data.
  • Lifts, positions and transports patients utilizing proper technique and equipment.
  • Accompanies and remains with patient for clinical test or procedures in other departments/areas.
  • Transports charts, specimens, equipment and supplies.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information.
  • Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
  • Attends staff meetings, all mandatory in-service and additional continuing education as required.
  • Responds to problems/opportunities to improve care.
  • Supports and participates in the organization’s Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Assists with cleaning, restocking and preparation of patient care and supply areas/rooms (includes supplies, equipment, beds).
  • Assists in care and maintains equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurses, and other staff members.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.
  • Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, patient safety, environment and infection control standards.
  • Collaborates with forensic team and law enforcement officials as it relates to the care of inmates and arrestees in order to maintain a safe and secure environment at all times.
  • Observes restraints and forensic policies and procedures.
  • Provides coverage for relief and absences as required.
