About The Position

This is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door as a Washington State employee! Deliver skilled, compassionate care to our nation's heroes at the Walla Walla Veterans Home! Our team is excited to announce we are now accepting applications for an On-Call Nursing Assistants Certified at the Walla Walla Veterans Home! This position is On-Call, meaning the work is intermittent in nature, sporadic, and does not fit a particular pattern. On-Call employees are utilized to support operational staffing needs. Shifts for on-call staff are scheduled on a rotational basis. The on-call expectations for this position requires that staff be available to work as needed, with a minimum availability of three shifts per week, on two different shifts. This position is not eligible for telework. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families. As a Nursing Assistant Certified, you will assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to vulnerable Veterans in need of skilled nursing care in a homelike setting. Requirements

  • Valid Washington state license to practice as a nursing assistant certified.
  • Active status on Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) Registry.
  • Must be proficient in the English language and be able to read, write and speak English.
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
  • Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks.
  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies.
  • Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
  • Must maintain a valid NAC license from the State of Washington Department of Health.
  • Must remain current on the OBRA Registry.
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Must successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
  • Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
  • Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the resident's care plan.
  • Create and maintain meaningful, professional relationships with residents and their families.
  • Support and encourage the resident's involvement in decisionmaking.
  • Assist with therapies and treatment under the direction of a licensed RN.
  • Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating and monitoring/feeding of meals and nourishments, depending on the specific needs and requirements of each resident.
  • Accurately obtain and record vital signs and other resident data; document residents' intake and output records; encourage liquids and collection of specimens for lab use.
  • Perform basic nursing procedures such as applying anti-embolism stockings, applying creams or lotion to intact skin, etc.
  • Reposition residents and access supplies as needed.
  • Use hoyer lift, oxygen tanks, scoop stretcher, or special equipment as needed.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary spaces in the household including residents' rooms and common spaces.
  • Lead therapeutic recreational activities.
