RES is looking for an Ecological Restoration Technician, based out of our _______office.

The mission: Our Techs work on a variety of projects, including Stream restoration, Stormwater management, Restoration planting, Invasive plant removal/management, and Landscape construction. The work is seasonally steady and requires 40-55 hours per week. A few opportunities for weekend work during peak periods exist. 90% of our work is local (2 hours drive max from Chicago), with a few occasional opportunities for overnight travel.

TEAM INTERACTION: You’ll be supported by experienced mentors, and your work will directly contribute to restoring natural habitats, improving water quality, and enhancing resilience to flooding and coastal challenges.

Requirements

• High School degree or equivalent.
• Reliable means of transportation to get to the field office.
• Keen interest in natural resources and the outdoors.
• Ability to read and understand project plans, details, and specifications.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to walk over uneven surfaces and up/down hills.
• Ability to climb on construction equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather.

Nice To Haves

• 1+ years of work in ecological restoration
• Commercial Pesticide Technician/Apprentice License in the applicable categories for your assigned state or ability to obtain one
• S-130/190 Burn certification per region requirements or ability to obtain one
• Native and invasive plant species knowledge, applicable to your assigned state.
• 1+ years experience mixing and applying herbicides for managing invasive species.
• 1+ years experience performing planting and seeding techniques.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment like large trucks, UTVs, brush cutters, augers, and chainsaws.
• Use GPS mapping systems to navigate and document work.
• Use backpacks and hand sprayers for herbicide application.
• Report equipment maintenance needs and perform basic upkeep.
• Identify native and invasive plant species.
• Mix and apply herbicides to manage invasive species.
• Implement an invasive species management program.
• Perform planting and seeding projects.
• Earn S-130/190 Burn Certification and be involved in habitat management techniques (if applicable).
