About The Position

This position involves providing care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient, with a focus on neonates. The role requires knowledge of medications, the ability to assess and perform neonatal resuscitation, and conduct head-to-toe assessments under supervision. The nurse will revise and evaluate care plans, implement teaching plans for patients and families, and communicate effectively with co-workers and physicians. The position also involves assisting physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery departments, managing equipment safely, and adhering to hospital ethics and compliance programs.

Requirements

Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure.
BLS required.

Nice To Haves

Newborn Nursery and Postpartum experience preferred.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification within one year preferred.

Responsibilities

Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to AHA/AAP NRP guidelines.
Ability under direct supervision of an RN to perform a head-to-toe assessment on infants and adults and reassessments as per policy.
Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
Implement a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning (family is included in teaching, as appropriate).
Communicates appropriately and clearly to co-workers and physicians.
Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient.
Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery departments.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s/department’s Ethics and compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor or upward through chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or hospital outline.
Employee adheres to and practices the standards of performance in the Standards of Performance handbook.
Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
