About The Position

Provides patient care to an assigned group of patients, either in the radiology holding area or during patient transport, utilizing basic skills and knowledge. Observes patient's condition, activities, and needs and reports any changes to the patient's condition. Performs procedural tasks such as transporting and special assignments. This position is ECB status, requiring a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department, with limited benefit offerings. The work shift is nights from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a variable work schedule including weekends.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of the Saint Francis Hospital Nurse Technician Training Program or completion of a patient care course/program such as Home Health Aide (HHA), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or completed at least one semester of nursing school.
  • CPR Certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • 0 - 6 months related experience.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented as required in the documentation of numerical data.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care to an assigned group of patients, either in the radiology holding area or during patient transport, utilizing basic skills and knowledge.
  • Observes patient's condition, activities, and needs and reports any changes to the patient's condition.
  • Performs procedural tasks such as transporting and special assignments.
  • Courteously greets patients/customers and identifies self to each patient.
  • Verifies that the stretcher or bed is in the lowest position with all rails up & wheels locked, & alarm at patient's side.
  • Ensures equipment is plugged in, if applicable.
  • Confirms O2 is connected to the wall & at the appropriate setting, and prevents the patient from leaving the holding area without portable O2.
  • Offers a warm blanket & adjustments to the head of the stretcher & assistance to the restroom.
  • Utilizes hospital/department communications, telephone, computer, and paging appropriately.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers and hospital personnel.
  • Supports unit/hospital goals through P.I. and educational activities.
  • Modifies behavior or performance to comply with care standards and unit requirements.
  • Accurately completes variance reports.
  • Attends mandatory in-services and unit education standards.
  • Performs environmental activities to maintain a clean and orderly patient holding area.
  • Ensures dirty laundry is emptied, blanket warmer and supplies are restocked at the need of each shift.
  • Cleans transport equipment as required, including changing linens and reports any equipment malfunctions to the manager.
  • Demonstrates specialty skills and knowledge appropriate to the surgical arena.
  • Performs tasks and procedures as directed by the supervisor or Registered Nurse.
  • Refills O2 containers and linen warmers.
  • Checks specialty carts and equipment as assigned.
  • Transports patients to and from designated areas as required.
  • Transports equipment, supplies, and other materials while following all safety procedures.
