About The Position
The unit, 3CN/4CN/5CN offer a dynamic patient care experience. 3CN is a ten-bed unit who specializes in general surgery, vascular, and thoracic patients. We are the only progressive care unit in the hospital that can monitor arterial lines. 5CN is a cardiovascular and thoracic surgery unit. We receive patients directly from the ICU and we can monitor patients who are on various anti-arrhythmic. 5CN is focused on discharge plan and readiness. Royal Oak Hospital is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the #2 hospital in Michigan and one of the top hospitals in the country. It is a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations. The advanced capabilities and clinical expertise within this center have earned it Magnet designation four consecutive times and has the distinct honor of housing Michigan’s first Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing.
- May be enrolled in an (accredited) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program.
- ADN graduates will be required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire/placement in a graduate nurse position.
- Required RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure (or) Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam.
- Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically.
- High School Diploma
- Evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations – theory and clinical.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Or ARC American Red Cross, Upon Hire required.

Responsibilities
- Performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients under the supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property.
- Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or peri care.
