About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Extern assists patients with activities of daily living; provides a safe environment for patients by providing 1:1 observation and care; and assists staff and patients with select procedures and health interventions, all in a family centered environment. The Extern can also assist in data collection activities (i.e. hand hygiene surveillance, personal protective equipment usage, etc). Providence caregivers are not simply valued – they’re invaluable. This is an extern position designed for nursing students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program in Anchorage, Alaska. To be eligible for this position, students must be currently in their 1st semester or 2nd semester of nursing school with more than 1 calendar year remining before graduation.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in an NLN approved nursing program
• National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire
• Currently in their 1st semester or 2nd semester of nursing school with more than 1 calendar year remaining before graduation

Nice To Haves

• Current enrollment in an NLN approved Bachelor of Science nursing program
• Has successfully completed, at a minimum, the 1st semester of clinicals
• Previous employment in a health care setting
