About The Position

MedSurg is a 44-bed unit providing direct care for the general Medical Surgical population in Ludington, Mason County, and surrounding areas of West Michigan. The unit cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, including pneumonia, cellulitis, kidney failure, hyperglycemia, diabetic issues, ulcers, confused elderly, alcohol abuse, acute/chronic kidney injury, sepsis, and the psychiatric population. Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life support certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

• 2 years of relevant/related experience.
• Prior recent hospital NT experience (for exemption from Basic Skills class).
• Nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation (for exemption from Basic Skills and Sterile technique classes).

Responsibilities

• Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.
• Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.
• Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
• Takes vitals, checks blood sugars, performs bed baths, ambulates patients, provides wound care, performs catheterization, and acts as a safety attendant for patients.
• Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
