The Nurse Tech acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. This role performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. The Nurse Tech collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization, and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner. The 5 South Oncology unit is a 30-bed unit specializing in the care of patients with oncology diagnoses and a surgical population of head and neck cancers. The team on this unit runs central lines, administers chemotherapy treatments, and provides oncology education to patients. Longer patient stays are common, allowing the team to build relationships with patients and their families.
