About The Position

Under the supervision of a RN or direction of a LVN, works cooperatively with all team members in planning and performing basic nursing care. The Nurse Tech is accountable for all patient care he/she gives and is responsible for adhering to all standards of care and for promoting teamwork among coworkers.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Registered Nurse program and have completed the first semester/Quarter of basic nursing skills.
Ongoing enrollment in a Registered Nurse program.
BCLS or ACLS Certification

Responsibilities

Address basic human needs in a respectful and caring manner, and documents interventions in EMR
Adheres to Infection prevention
Adheres to policies, procedures, and standards of practice to deliver safe and optimal care
Communicates effectively with the patient, family, and medical staff during the continuum of care
Complies with Joint Commission’s national patient safety goals
Complies with organizational quality dashboard/benchmarking goals
Establishes priorities to carry out an established care plan according to patient needs
Identifies common variables affecting patient care and follows reporting process
Maintains cooperative working relationships with members of the hospital team
Maintains regulatory compliance consistent with quality standards and ethical obligations of the profession

Performs as a preceptor in an active and engaged manner
Provides care within scope of practice as directed by other members of the healthcare team
Re-enforces patient and family education under the direction of the RN throughout hospitalization

Supports patient care within scope of a practice as directed by other members of the healthcare team
Utilizes resources in an economical manner
Utilizes Safe Patient Handling
Takes assignment as a patient “sitter” for at risk patients, making physical and behavioral observations and reporting changes to the RN, ensures that report is received and given at the beginning and end of each shift and anytime a change in condition occurs.
Identifies patients using identity band to verify the name and date of birth
Assists with moving patients following safe patient handling procedures
Ensures patients privacy and dignity
Follows hand hygiene policy/procedure during all patient encounters
Introduces self to patient and family and provides information regarding purpose of the assignment
Calls patient by preferred name and follows all standards of conduct
Ensures a plan for relief to not leave patient unattended during breaks and lunch
Takes vital signs and other pertinent information as required by the department and documents in medical record.
Communicates all significant clinical findings to nurse.
Implements the patient care plan by providing direct patient care for those patients assigned including but not limited to the following activities: gives baths, oral hygiene, skin care, backrubs, assists patients to and from bathroom, positions patients and changes position appropriately according to care plan instructions, ensures patients receive prescribed diet, assists with feedings as needed, places tray conveniently, collects specimens as instructed using appropriate technique, takes vital signs and notifies RN of any change or abnormal finding, assists/performs treatments as directed by RN/LVN including: foley care, application of binders, FSBS, sitz baths, and post mortem care, others as directed.
