About The Position
The Nurse Tech Adult Oncology position on unit 5 North at Butterworth Hospital specializes in the care of patients with oncology diagnoses, as well as a surgical population of obstetrics, gynecology, and gastrointestinal. This unit commonly sees longer patient stays, allowing the team to build relationships with patients and their families. While specialized, the unit offers continuous learning opportunities due to the variety of patient conditions beyond their cancer, including general medical/surgical cases. Teamwork is a core value, and new staff are welcomed warmly to ensure a positive experience. The unit is seeking individuals passionate about this patient population who are eager to grow their skills and gain long-term experience. Butterworth Hospital, located in Grand Rapids, is a nationally recognized hospital for quality and safety and a regional leader in full-service hospitals since 1873. It is the flagship hospital for Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals.
Requirements
- Hight School Diploma or equivalent Required
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
Responsibilities
- Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.
- Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.
- Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
- Takes vitals.
- Checks blood sugars.
- Provides bed bathing.
- Assists with ambulation.
- Performs wound care.
- Performs catheterization.
- Acts as a safety attendant for patients.
- Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
