About The Position

The State of Vermont is seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join the Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living (DAIL) - Division of Licensing and Protection (DLP) as surveyors. In this role, you will ensure that healthcare facilities adhere to the rules and regulations set by the State of Vermont and the Federal Government (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid - CMS). This is a home-based position that requires significant travel throughout Vermont, including overnight stays in hotels several times a week/month. The typical work week involves three days in the field and one day working from your home office. Occasional off-hours work, including evenings and weekends, is expected. A reliable means of transportation is also required. As a Nurse Surveyor, you will use your knowledge, objectivity, professionalism, and commitment to assess the quality of care and services in healthcare facilities/providers through onsite observations, interviews, and record reviews. You will identify deficient practices and relate them to federal and state statutory and regulatory requirements. The facilities covered include Nursing Homes, Acute Care Hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, Psychiatric Hospitals, End Stage Renal Dialysis Centers, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Rural Health Clinics, Home Health Agencies, and Hospice Agencies. You will collaborate with other surveyors to evaluate compliance with quality of care, quality of life, and other regulatory requirements. A key responsibility is writing deficiency statements according to CMS "Principles of Documentation" and completing reports and summaries within established guidelines and timelines. Proficiency in computer programs and applications is also expected. Within six to twelve months of hire, the successful candidate must pass the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Federal Qualification Test (SMQT).

Requirements

Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license
Four (4) years or more of professional nursing experience
Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) certification is required within one year of hire.
Must maintain Vermont licensure or multi-state license as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.
Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
Fingerprint supported criminal record checks, adult and child abuse registry checks, the Office of Inspector General exclusion database, and motor vehicle driving record checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion, or demotion into a classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Responsibilities
