About The Position

The Nurse Supervisor ensures high quality nursing services by providing day-to-day supervision of nursing staff in accordance with federal and state regulations as well as Salemtowne’s Mission Statement and organizational policies and procedures under the direction of the Director of Nursing.

Requirements

  • Active license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of North Carolina.
  • Three (3) years’ prior nursing supervision required.
  • Prior experience in senior living healthcare.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to model and ensure others are providing medical treatment in a manner that honors elders’ preferences and individuality.
  • Demonstrates strong commitment to the highest clinical outcomes.
  • Ability to see leadership of others as a role of service, rather than one of authority, and seeks to support and under gird other’s ability to succeed.
  • Ability to be nimble to do any tasks needed, including those that may seem menial or unpleasant.
  • Skilled at communicating with physicians or other medical personnel to advocate for elder preferences.
  • Capable in refraining from pressuring or manipulating elders into accepting medication or treatment for the sake of convenience.
  • Proficient in recognizing early signs of changing conditions and uses all available and appropriate resources to resolve needs.
  • Very strong observational and assessment skills with regards to physical/social/spiritual conditions, coupled with ability to discern effective response / treatment.
  • Able to embrace uncommon methods if they will best suit elders’ needs.
  • Sensitive to changing medical needs and the nature of staff responses and takes appropriate actions regardless of whether the needs have been reported by others.
  • Ability to model person-centered practices and provide direction to other team members as needed.
  • Capable of facilitating a sense of team connection and participation.
  • Competent in nurturing sense of accountability to elders and household among nursing staff.
  • Adept in advocating for needs of either household, elders, family, or staff as needed.
  • Skilled at mediating conflicts concerning team members as needed.
  • Ability to provide clear directions, expectations, and feedback.
  • Capable of eliciting trust and cooperation from team members.
  • Ability to communicate elders’ medical needs clearly with team members, resident representatives, and physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews prior day admissions to ensure complete admission documentation has been done.
  • Confirms CNA ADL documentation is complete before the end of their shift.
  • Ensures all Skin Sweeps are performed per schedule and documented.
  • Confirms Residents have received their scheduled showers.
  • Verifies all nurse charting and documentation is complete prior to the end of their shift.
  • Guarantees patient care requirements are met by modifying assignments and attempting to fill assignment holes when there is a call-out.
  • Ensures individual, changing needs of individuals are met by nursing services according to individual care plans, observing subordinate nursing staff and implementing interventions as needed.
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by developing and maintaining positive relationships with and providing support to staff, residents and residents’ caregivers through direct interaction and telephone contact as needed.
  • Assures quality of care by enforcing adherence to state nursing requirements, monitoring changes in resident condition, communicating changes in resident condition in a timely manner to the resident’s physician(s) and caregiver(s), implementing physician’s orders, etc.
  • Participates in a “Nurse on Call” schedule.
