About The Position

The Nurse in Charge (NIC) is a designated clinical leader for a patient care area who works under the supervision of and in collaboration with the Department Director to plan and coordinate care at the service/department level. This position is responsible and accountable for cost-effective decision-making regarding operations including utilization and application of resources (i.e., human resources, patient care environment, supplies, etc.). The NIC directs and supervises professional and non-professional staff, determines staff assignment and scheduling, and assures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. They participate in the development of patient care standards and delivery of care processes, facilitate and participate in staff development, including orientation and training, and participate in performance evaluation and management including verbal coaching and counseling. Additionally, the NIC participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the quality improvement and safety plan, maintains a clinical environment that demonstrates service excellence, and functions as a professional role model and resource person.

Requirements

• Current licensure by the Maryland State Board as a Registered Nurse
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Bachelor’s in Nursing required
• BLS certification (issued through the American Heart Association)
• Minimum of 3 years of specialty specific experience
• Advanced computer skills to include data entry and retrieval, including Microsoft specialty products.
• Reads, writes, speaks and comprehends English language.
• Ability to effectively communicate complex and comprehensive information thoroughly and succinctly.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in nursing preferred
