About The Position

Broughton Hospital is currently accepting applications for a Psychosocial Treatment Nurse Manager position. The Psychosocial Treatment Nurse Manager provides leadership and guidance to Psychosocial Treatment Nursing Staff and the Psychosocial Nurse Supervisor in goal setting, problem solving, resource and outcome management to ensure the needs of the patients are met with existing resources in providing psychosocial treatment. This is achieved through the organization, administration, coordination and supervision of nursing service practices within the Psychosocial Treatment Mall and the hospital. The Nurse Manager involves a multitude of direct and indirect patient care tasks. Attention is directed to the emotional and physical needs of the acutely ill psychiatric patient, while also safeguarding his/her human rights in psychosocial treatment. Also, attention is directed to the morale and well-being of the caregiver who is critical to the continuous delivery of adequate patient care. The Psychosocial Treatment Nurse Manager works collaboratively with the Director of Psychosocial Treatment, Recreational Therapy, Nursing Leadership, Psychiatry, Psychology and Social Work as well as other stakeholders throughout the hospital to provide leadership for the Psychosocial Nursing staff. The Psychosocial Nursing Manager is a leader and member of Integrated Therapeutic Patient Services (ITPS) and reports directly to the Assistant Chief Executive Officer. The Psychosocial Treatment Nurse Manger collaborates with other disciplines/departments to ensure that patient care needs are met using professional, evidence-based standards and regulatory agency standards.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of north Carolina
  • Four years of nursing experience, including two years of experience in a Nurse Supervisor capacity.

  • Experience coaching and developing staff, scheduling staff to meet patient care and service area needs
  • Experience conducting management investigations (i.e. interviews, reviewing findings, etc.)
  • Experience managing staff levels to ensure staffing is adequate

Responsibilities

  • Ensures quality in the delivery of nursing care by regularly monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating data from audits, Epic reports, rounding, observations and discussions with staff and patients.
  • Facilitates and/or participates in Performance Improvement Teams and other workgroups to improve patient outcomes and achieve meaningful and measurable goals for the Psychosocial Treatment Mall and Integrative Therapeutic Patient Services (ITPS.)
  • Provides expertise and mentoring for staff relating to investigations, while ensuring all aspects of investigations are completed accurately and timely per policies and procedures, working collaboratively with other departments appropriately.
  • Role models and encourages problem-solving for assigned area(s) or supervision; developing mechanisms for problem identification and encouraging staff to develop proposed solutions; supporting staff in implementation of solutions.
  • Monitors effectiveness of interventions initially and on a continuing basis.
  • Evaluates Psychosocial Nursing staff's contributions to programming efforts in relation to total needs of service area and availability of staff.
  • Spontaneously interacts and intervenes with patients and staff as role model for professionalism, best practices and clinical skills.
  • Routinely carries out functions within the Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) which may include, but is not limited to review and analysis of events, performance improvement, maintaining patient safety work product (PSWP) within a secure environment, and providing patient safety event information designated as patient safety event to designated quality and risk management personnel for the Patient Safety Organization (PSO).
  • Actively participates as a member of ITPS to establish goals and to provide quality psychosocial nursing services.
  • Reviews and revises psychosocial staffing plans.
  • Assesses and determines budgeted requests that influence the provision of a safe and therapeutic environment by ensuring that there are adequate patient care supplies and equipment available to nursing staff in the Psychosocial Treatment Mall.
  • Manage all aspects of human resources matters in accordance with State Human Resources Policies and Hospital policies.
  • Provides structure and leadership conducive to open communication among all levels of psychosocial nursing staff, as well as with other disciplines and departments, utilizing information received from sources within the organization.
  • Develops and maintains multiple communication strategies to keep employees informed of pertinent information (meetings, communication book, written memos and other documents, minutes, bulletin boards, rounds, meetings, etc).
  • Works collaboratively with Director of Psychosocial Treatment, Recreational Therapy, Nursing Leadership, Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Work, Medical Services and other stakeholders to ensure safe and effective Psychosocial Treatment Mall operations that are conducive, inviting and engaging for patient active participation.
  • Thought leader in improving patient engagement in active psychosocial treatment, therapeutic activities and programming.
