About The Position

The Nurse Stroke Coordinator is an expert nurse fundamental to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the stroke program directed towards the provision of quality services for patients who are experiencing stroke from an interdisciplinary perspective throughout the continuum of care. This individual works collaboratively with the Stroke Program Medical Director, Coordinator Neuroscience Programs, and acts as a clinical liaison and communicates to physicians, nurses, therapists, other ancillary staff, patients and their families. The Nurse Stroke Coordinator provides leadership for the organization of services and systems necessary for a collaborative approach to stroke care. The Nurse Stroke Coordinator will assume the day-to-day responsibilities of process and performance improvement as they relate to nursing and ancillary personnel with an end goal to achieve high quality, patient-focused outcomes in stroke care. This position also serves as a resource for staff, patients, families and the community by providing clinical expertise and by teaching in formal and informal settings.

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing required.
• Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Mississippi.
• RN is required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
• Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
• 3 to 5+ years of nursing experience, with an emphasis on neuroscience or critical care.
• At least two (2) years of relevant leadership experience within a DNV or Joint Commission Stroke Program.
• Experience must be within the past five (5) years.
• Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
• Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
• Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
• Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
• Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
• Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
• Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
• Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science Degree (BSN) or Master of Science Degree (MSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
• Stroke Coordinator Certification (American Heart Association Certified Professional – Stroke or The Association of Neurovascular Clinicians - Advanced Stroke Certification (ASC-BC)) RN has 12 months, from the date they begin working to acquire Stroke Coordinator Certification.
