About The Position

The Nurse Resident is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities to identified age-specific groups. Utilizes the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department. Nurse Residents will be under the direct supervision of a preceptor for all principal duties and responsibilities during the training program with eventual transition to independent practice after successful training program completion. Upon completion of the yearlong (12 months) nurse resident program the nurse resident will transition to the RN job description. Nurse Resident – An employee who has just exited nursing school, is newly licensed, or an experienced RN new to the acute care setting. Requirements

Arizona RN license required by nurse residency start date.
BLS required.
Nurse Resident must successfully complete ACLS training prior to independent practice.
Associate Degree in Nursing- Required.
New hire RNs and those hired on or after 7/1/2016 - Must enroll in a BSN program within one year of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.
Current, unrestricted RN license in the State of Arizona- Required.
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required.
Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.

Responsibilities

Providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities to identified age-specific groups.
Utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department.
Participating in New Colleague & RN Orientation, CERNER Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Training, Basic ECG Interpretation & ACLS certification.
Participating in synchronous learning through lecture, hands-on skills, return demonstration, clinical application.
Participating in asynchronous learning via online modules.
Being paired with experienced preceptors to guide through clinical shifts on their hired unit.
Participating in check-ins with preceptor & educator throughout their orientation time.
Working toward mutually set goals necessary for clinical growth & competency.
Participating in continued learning plan that lasts one year after date of hire.
Participating in a 4-hour module or in-person class once every four weeks for continued learning, emotional support, and professional growth.
