Nurse Resident- Emergency
About The Position
The Nurse Resident position is a mentored experience designed to facilitate the transition from student to professional nurse. This role involves the delivery of coordinated nursing care for patients or assigned groups of patients within a specific unit. Responsibilities include the day-to-day management and supervision of related clinical activities, as well as supervising and directing the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel. The Nurse Resident must understand and adhere to the California Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, ANA Bill of Rights for Registered Nurses, and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurses. Proficiency in speaking and reading English is required to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment and personal computer software skills, including proficient use of a keyboard and mouse for various computer functions, is necessary upon employment or within the first two weeks. The role also includes performing other duties as assigned and following Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws, and standards, while carrying out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.
Requirements
- As required by certification and/or licensure
- 0 - 6 months in similar work.
- Current CA RN License
- American Heart Association recognized BLS - Healthcare Provider
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or Masters Entry in a School of Nursing approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency RN Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 6 months of hire
- Crisis Prevention (CPI) within 6 months of hire
- American Heart Association recognized Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 90 days of hire
Responsibilities
- Delivery of coordinated nursing care for a patient or an assigned group of patients within an assigned unit.
- Day to day management and supervision of the related clinical activities.
- Supervising and directing the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel utilizing both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
- Understanding and adhering to the California Nurse Practice Act, The American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, ANA Bill of Rights for Registered Nurses and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurses.
- Speaking and reading English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position.
- Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail).
- Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
