About The Position

This role is for a Nurse Resident Intern who will deliver safe, direct care to an assigned group of patients under the supervision of an RN. The intern will communicate with the registered nurse about changes in the patient’s clinical condition. They will ensure adherence to Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) and departmental policies and procedures, working within the North Carolina Board of Nursing Delegation to Unlicensed Assistant Personnel (UAP) guidelines. The intern will use nursing processes to collaborate with the healthcare team, implementing and documenting individualized nursing plans of care incorporating age-specific considerations. They will also administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights, and document and communicate clinical findings under visual supervision of an RN or LPN. Additionally, the intern will assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained, and assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients. They will maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families and serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment and quality patient care. The intern will also assist in maintaining, supporting, and implementing the department and hospital’s mission, vision, and goals, and enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, and attending in-services and meetings.

Requirements

  • Completion of junior year in an accredited nursing program
  • Sixty (60) hours of 120 required hours of the Transition to Practice or Focused Clinical Care component of study completed.
  • Must be graduating no later than 2 months following application to the position.
  • Schedule, complete and pass the NCLEX within 2 months or most current available date after college graduation from the nursing school.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from American Red Cross or American Heart Association and must not expire during internship.
  • Able to pass criminal background check
  • Able to pass a drug screen
  • Comply with CIHA Personnel Vaccination requirements
  • Must have a means of transportation to and from work
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and the general public.
  • Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (essential job functions), with or without reasonable accommodation

Responsibilities

  • Work within the North Carolina Board of Nursing Delegation to Unlicensed Assistant Personnel (UAP) guidelines.
  • Use nursing processes to work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implementing and documenting individualized nursing plans of care incorporating age specific considerations depending on the department including Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups., including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings under visual supervision of RN or LPN.
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards
