About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking new graduate nurses for its Nurse Residency Program. This program is an outstanding opportunity for newly graduated Licensed Staff Nurses to transition from nursing school to a confident, competent Registered Nurse. The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and provides additional support and training throughout the first year. This includes guidance from the Nurse Residency Program Coordinator, Nurse Educators, and experienced preceptors. Monthly classes and meetings supplement unit-based orientation with hands-on training, expert lectures, and facilitator-led discussions, focusing on didactic, evidence-based content to develop clinical and interpersonal communication skills, and confidence in practice.

Requirements

  • Must be a new graduate nurse with no previous RN experience.
  • Resume must include the month and year of anticipated graduation.
  • Resume must include information from internship/externship experiences and clinical rotation experiences, detailing the experience, hospital/facility, type of unit, hours completed, and dates.
  • Resume must include any certifications earned (e.g., ACLS/PALS, CNA).
  • Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal background check and credential/education verification.
  • Five professional references will be requested at a later step.

Responsibilities

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.
